The Finance Ministry has amended the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2022 through a notification. Under this, GSTN, which handles the technology arm of GST, has been included among the entities with whom the ED can share information. Expressing concern over these notifications, AAP’s Delhi and Punjab governments demanded a discussion on it.
Delhi’s Finance Minister Atishi told reporters here, “Many finance ministers have raised this issue. Delhi, Punjab, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Rajasthan have expressed concern and said that it will be discussed in the Council.” Should be.”
Cheema said that many states have demanded a discussion. “The notification empowers the ED to arrest any businessman for non-payment of GST. Such a decision will increase ‘tax terrorism’ in the country and is dangerous for small businessmen and common people.”
Atishi said that GSTN has been brought under PMLA. This would mean that whether you are in small or big business, if you are registered under GST, you can be prosecuted by ED for offenses like delay in filing returns.
