San Francisco (Uttam Hindu News): SpaceX, the aerospace company run by Elon Musk, aims for 12 launches per month, or one launch in less than three days. A company official told Ars Technica that it is planning 144 launches next year. Many more Starlink satellites are to be deployed in space to support the satellite-based cell phone service, which is scheduled to launch next year as a texting-only service, with voice and data reportedly coming in 2025 and beyond.
The report quoted a SpaceX official as saying, “With our 2 million users, we need to refresh that group. “We’re also going to look at direct cell communications with Starlink, and that’s a key feature that will be added to those 144 flights next year.”
Last year, SpaceX launched 61 missions and over the past 12 months, SpaceX has launched 88 rockets, as well as a test flight to Mars of the company’s much larger Starship rocket. Success in recovering and reusing the Falcon 9 booster and payload fairing has been key to making the feat possible, the report said. Meanwhile, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched 23 Starlink internet satellites into orbit on Sunday. Launched, which is the company’s second mission in 24 hours.
The 23 Starlink satellites are scheduled to deploy from the Falcon 9 upper stage about 65.5 minutes after launch, Space.com reports. On Saturday the company launched 21 Starlink satellites. Starlink provides affordable internet service to customers around the world. There are currently 4,900 Starlink satellites in operation. The satellite internet service run by Musk generated $1.4 billion in revenue last year. According to the report, this is up from $222 million in 2021, but $11 billion less than its original estimate.
