Chennai: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday that employees selected for jobs and appointed in other states as per the need should learn the local language. With this they will be able to provide better services to the people. Sitharaman, after handing over appointment letters to the successful candidates at the employment fair, encouraged the candidates to apply for jobs in Tamil Nadu-based public sector undertakings.
Referring to the employment fair of the Centre, he said that the government is organizing it from October, 2022 and till now appointment letters have been handed over to about 10 lakh people. The Finance Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving 51,000 appointment letters to the candidates digitally today across the country. Appointment letters are being given to 553 people from Tamil Nadu.
He talked about learning the local language to improve the delivery of services by the candidates after selection in a public sector undertaking or bank. He said that better services can be provided to customers through local languages. Citing an example, Sitharaman said that if a candidate has got a job in Karnataka then he should learn Kannada. If he is posted in Tamil Nadu, he should learn Tamil. Due to candidates not having knowledge of local language, there is laxity in service delivery. Appointment letters have been given to both gazetted and non-gazetted categories of employees.
