Finance Ministry holds review meeting with heads of public sector banks

Joshi called upon public sector banks to achieve the targets allocated under various schemes for financial inclusion in a time-bound manner, the finance ministry said in a statement.
Financial Services Secretary Vivek Joshi on Thursday held a meeting with heads of public sector banks (PSUs) and financial institutions and urged them to promote various financial inclusion schemes like Jan Suraksha and Mudra Yojana. Senior officials from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare also participated in the day-long review meeting. Joshi called upon public sector banks to achieve the targets allocated under various schemes for financial inclusion in a time-bound manner, the finance ministry said in a statement.
The Ministry has also launched a three-month campaign to meet the target of Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). According to the statement, banks have been advised to leverage their banking correspondent network to reach out and add potential beneficiaries. The Financial Services Secretary also urged the banks to conduct awareness campaigns about these schemes in regional or local languages.
