New Delhi. Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand and Rajasthan have demanded the Center to make available food grains from reserves under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) for their state welfare schemes. Karnataka Food Minister KH Muniyappa gave this information on Wednesday. These four states, which are ruled by opposition parties, have made this demand at the National Conference of State Food Ministers held in the national capital. Muniyappa told reporters that the state government has requested to provide rice under OMSS to fulfill its poll promise of providing additional five kilograms of rice over and above the entitlement under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). Muniyappa said that this demand has been raised not only by the Karnataka government but also by the governments of Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Jharkhand. Around 17 food ministers and officials from 35 states and union territories (UTs) participated in the conference.
