Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) invested Rs 11,495 crore in Indian equities till March 17, according to depository data. Earlier, FPIs had made a net withdrawal of Rs 5,294 crore in February and Rs 28,852 crore in January.

New Delhi. Foreign investors have invested Rs 11,500 crore in Indian equities so far this month. This is a major contributor to the large investments of US-based GQG Partners in Adani group companies. Experts said FPIs may turn cautious in the coming days following the collapse of US-based banks – Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) invested Rs 11,495 crore in Indian equities till March 17, according to depository data. Earlier, FPIs had made a net withdrawal of Rs 5,294 crore in February and Rs 28,852 crore in January.

In December 2022, FPI had made a net investment of Rs 11,119 crore. This includes a bulk investment of Rs 15,446 crore by GQG in four Adani stocks (inflows in March), said VK Vijayakumar, chief investment strategist at Geojit Financial Services. If this investment is removed, there is a strong selloff in equities by FPIs. FPIs have net sold Rs 22,651 crore in equities so far in 2023.
