FPIs put Rs 16,405 crore into Indian stocks so far in June

New Delhi: Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) continued to invest in Indian stock markets for the fourth consecutive month in June. Foreign investors have invested Rs 16,405 crore in the Indian stock market so far in June amid revival of the country’s economy and a positive growth outlook, according to depository data. FPIs had invested Rs 43,838 crore in stocks in May. This was a nine-month high for his investments. He had infused Rs 11,631 crore in shares in April and Rs 7,936 crore in March. Earlier, during January-February, FPIs had pulled out over Rs 34,000 crore from stocks. Mayank Mehra, principal partner at financial advisory firm Craving Alpha said, “Looking at the current investment trend, it is expected that FPI interest will continue towards Indian markets throughout the month of June.”

He said that due to the ongoing economic recovery, positive corporate earnings and favorable policy environment, FPI flows will continue to be positive in Indian markets. Himanshu Srivastava, Associate Director-Manager Research, Morningstar India, said, “Indian markets are on a steady upward trajectory. Due to which concern can arise regarding the evaluation. Apart from this, due to strict regulatory rules, the flow of foreign capital in the Indian market can also be affected. According to the data, during June 1 to 16, FPIs invested a net Rs 16,406 crore in Indian equities. Apart from stocks, FPIs also infused Rs 550 crore in the debt or bond market during the period under review.
