According to the group, 4.7 per cent of Adani Ports, 3.8 per cent of Adani Transmission, 3.5 per cent of Adani Green Energy and 0.6 per cent of Adani Enterprises, the group’s flagship company, have been pledged. However, the number of pledged shares of the group has come down significantly as compared to December 31, 2022. At that time, 17.3 per cent of Adani Ports, 6.6 per cent of Adani Transmission, 4.4 per cent of Adani Green Energy and 2.7 per cent of the group’s flagship company Adani Enterprises were mortgaged with banks. The group has repaid $2.1 billion in debt after which the number of pledged shares has come down.
Hindenburg Research derailed
US-based short selling firm Hindenburg Research issued a negative report on Adani Group on 24 January. After this, there was a huge fall in the shares of Adani Group for more than a month. The market cap of the group decreased by $ 125 billion and Adani went down from the 20th position in the rich list. This forced Adani Group to change its strategy. To maintain the confidence of the investors, instead of expanding the business, it is engaged in reducing the debt.
