Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) is developing a container terminal at Colombo port with an investment of $700 million. Colombo port is a major center for cargo movement in South Asia. Green hydrogen is considered a cleaner fuel than other forms of hydrogen. Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL) has set a target of producing one million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030.

Adani Group is investing in many infrastructure development in Sri Lanka which is facing financial crisis. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) was given the responsibility of developing and operating the Colombo Port West Container Terminal in March 2021. For this, the Letter of Intent – ​​document outlining the agreement was given to the company in February 2021 by Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s largest holding John Keels Holdings in the construction of this port plc and Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is a partner. The Colombo Port Waste Container Terminal will be developed by the Adani Group on a build, operate and transfer basis for 35 years. This project will give a boost to container handling at Colombo Port West Container Terminal. Also, the sea will emerge as an important node in global trade. Colombo Port has already been a hub for transshipment of Indian containers and main line ship operators. 45% of Colombo’s transshipment volumes in India arrive or depart from Adani Port Terminals.
