New Delhi. GMR Power and Urban Infra Limited (GPUIL) on Monday said its subsidiary GMR Smart Electricity Distribution has bagged a contract worth Rs 7,593 crore for installation of smart meters in Uttar Pradesh. This smart meter project has been secured under the Revised Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) of the Government of India. The company said, its subsidiary GMR Smart Electricity Distribution Pvt Ltd has bagged the prestigious contract worth Rs 7,593 crore.
The contract, awarded under the DBFOOT (Design, Build, Finance, Own, Operate and Transfer) model, is to install 75.69 lakh prepaid smart meters in two power distribution companies – Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (DVVNL) and Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PUVVNL). The scope of this project includes 22 districts of the state, of which Varanasi, Prayagraj, Agra, Mathura and Aligarh are the main ones. GMR Group Chairman (Energy) Srinivas Bommidala said, “The achievement underlines GMR’s commitment to forge ahead in green and technology-driven energy business with a customer-centric growth strategy.
