Government is building new expressway projects with an investment of Rs 4.5 lakh crore: Gadkari

New Delhi. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Monday that the government is building a total of 10,000 km of new expressway projects with an investment of Rs 4.5 lakh crore. Gadkari said that these roads are being constructed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. He said that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has raised Rs 70,000 crore through various means of funding. This amount will be used for highway projects.

Gadkari said in a program organized by the Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) on ‘Management Development Program on Infrastructure Financing’, “The government has envisaged the Bharatmala project for the development of 65,000 km of highways across the country.” In the first phase, the road network is 34,800 km, we are building 10,000 km of new expressways at a cost of Rs 4.5 lakh crore. The minister said that the total national highway network in the country was 91,000 km in 2014, which has now increased to 1.45 lakh. Kilometers done.

Gadkari said the government is giving a boost to the economy through the infrastructure pipeline and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. These programs will ensure integrated and holistic development in the country. Also cost and time will be saved as these infrastructure projects will connect remote areas. The minister said, “It is important to put the properties on the market for investment in infrastructure. NHAI has a stake of 27 per cent in the National Monetization Scheme (scheme for offering assets on the market). We are actually taking forward several models for monetization of National Highways. This includes TOT (Toll-Operate-Transfer), InVIT (Infrastructure Investment Trust) and project based financing.
