New Delhi : Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Friday alleged that the Narendra Modi government was not allowing the matter related to the Adani Group to be discussed in Parliament. Tharoor, a Lok Sabha member from Thiruvananthapuram, told PTI, “The only demand of the opposition parties is that this subject (Adani case) should be discussed because we should know about its impact on the common man.”
He said, “LIC and other PSUs have invested in (Adani’s) shares, common man’s savings are deposited in LIC and public sector banks, so he should know that his savings are safe, the government is doing something.” . Tharoor said, “Parliament is meant to ask questions. If the discussion is not allowed then what is the point. In a democracy, Parliament is meant for discussion.
Members of several opposition parties, including the Congress, raised slogans in the Lok Sabha on Friday over the matter related to the Adani group, due to which the house was adjourned till 2 pm, minutes after the commencement of proceedings. Opposition members are demanding setting up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the matter related to the Adani Group and a discussion on the issue in Parliament.
