Government seeks applications from exporters for allocation of wheat quota to Bhutan

In a trade notice, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said that in view of the requests received from Bhutan, a detailed procedure for allocation of quota for export of wheat, flour and maida on humanitarian and food security grounds has been worked out.
New Delhi. Government has invited applications from exporters for allotting wheat quota during 2023-24 to Bhutan on humanitarian and food security grounds. In a trade notice, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said that in view of the requests received from Bhutan, a detailed procedure for allocation of quota for export of wheat, flour and maida on humanitarian and food security grounds has been worked out. It said that the government has approved the export of 14,184 tonnes of wheat to Bhutan in 2023-24. Apart from this, 5,326 tonnes of atta (wheat) and 15,226 tonnes of maida will also be exported.
As per the notice, under this, applications are invited from exporters for allocation of quota. Under this, the minimum limit of export through land transport to Bhutan is 100 tonnes. The application will be allowed only if the exporter applies for a quantity above the minimum limit. In a separate notification, the DGFT said it has banned the export of de-oiled rice bran till November 30 this year. De-oiled rice bran is used in the animal feed industry and India is a major exporter.
