Under this, emphasis will be laid on the use of 50 per cent recycled steel as raw material by primary steel producers. He said that this would help in achieving the government’s goal of creating an economy with optimum use of resources. Currently, the level of recycled steel usage in the primary steel industry is around 15 per cent.
While this industry contributes 22.5 percent to the total domestic steel production. The minister said this while addressing an international conference on material recycling here. The three-day conference was organized by the ‘Material Recycling Association of India’. More than 2,000 delegates from 38 countries participated in it. Scindia said that in the coming times, the industry will have to promote recycling while minimizing the exploitation of natural resources.
He said that the government is committed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5 percent in the steel sector by 2030, and the use of recycled steel is very important in this direction.
