New Delhi. Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology (IT) Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Friday said the government will regulate artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies from the point of view of the harm caused to users. Dismissing the possibility of loss of jobs due to the development of AI, Chandrasekhar said that there is no threat to jobs due to AI for the next few years but it may happen in five-seven years.
Chandrasekhar said, “Our approach to AI or any regulation is that we will regulate it from the point of view of harm to the user. It is a new philosophy, starting from 2014 that we will protect digital citizens. We will not allow forums that harm digital citizens. If they work here, they will reduce user losses.”
He was speaking at an event organized to share the achievements of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the nine years. He said that the visit of Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI, the company that created AI-based platform ChatGPT, to India significantly indicates India’s potential in the field of emerging technologies.
