Government will sell tomatoes at Rs 50 per kg from today, prices will decrease in Delhi-NCR and Bihar

New Delhi : Steps have been taken by the Modi government at the Center to stop the rising prices of tomatoes. With the fall in the prices of tomatoes in wholesale vegetable markets, the government has decided to sell them at cheaper rates. According to media reports, in view of the fall in prices in the wholesale market, the central government has directed cooperative societies (NCCF and Nafed) to sell tomatoes at Rs 50 per kg from Tuesday. Since the month of July, NCCF and NAFED are selling tomatoes at a subsidized rate on behalf of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar to increase the domestic availability of tomatoes and to control the price rise.
Tomatoes will be available for Rs 50 per kg
According to media reports, initially the Ministry of Consumer Affairs had asked both the cooperative societies to sell tomatoes at a subsidized rate of Rs 90 per kg. Later its price was reduced to Rs 80 per kg. Later it was further reduced to Rs 70 per kg. In a statement issued by the ministry, it has been said that after the fresh reduction in the price of tomatoes, now consumers will get tomatoes at a rate of Rs 50 per kg.
Tomatoes are available cheap in these places
It has been said in the report that so far a total of 15 lakh kg of tomatoes have been procured by both the cooperatives, which are being sold to retail consumers in major consumption centers of the country. These locations include Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan (Jaipur, Kota), Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj) and Bihar (Patna, Muzaffarpur, Arrah, Buxar).
Tomatoes are being supplied from mobile van
In the last few days, the National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF) has significantly increased the supply of tomatoes to retail consumers by deploying its mobile vans at 70 locations across Delhi and 15 locations in Noida and Greater Noida. In addition, NCCF is retailing tomatoes through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform.
Tomatoes are being procured from these states
NCCF and Indian Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited (NAFED) are procuring tomatoes from mandis in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. This tomato is being sent to those areas, where huge increase in tomato prices has been registered in the last one month. According to the data released by the ministry, the all-India average price of tomato has come down from Rs 9,671 per quintal on July 14 to Rs 9,195 per quintal on Monday. Tomato prices have come under pressure due to heavy rains in major growing centres, leading to supply issues.
PM Modi announced to reduce inflation
