Mustard oil-oilseeds, soybean oil, crude palm oil (CPO) and palmolein oil and cottonseed oil prices showed an improving trend in the Delhi market on Wednesday, while groundnut oil-oilseeds and soybean oilseeds prices closed at the previous level. Market sources said arrival of mustard in the mandis has further declined from 4.5 lakh bags in the previous trading session, while it was expected to increase after the Independence Day holiday. The arrival has decreased due to the situation of farmers not selling at a price less than the minimum support price (MSP). Due to this there was improvement in mustard oil oilseeds. He said that there was a boom in the Chicago Exchange on August 15 as well and today it is still booming, due to which soybean oil prices also showed improvement. But the prices of soybean oilseeds generally remained unchanged.
Similarly, CPO and Palmolein oil prices also corrected higher on Tuesday and Wednesday on Malaysia Exchange. Sources said that the arrival of cottonseed is negligible and whatever is coming in, it is of poor quality. Cottonseed oil prices also improved on tight arrivals. Keeping in mind the weak quality of cottonseed, the government should also get its stock kept in NCDEX checked because the skins coming out of it are eaten by the cattle. He said that due to cheap imported oils, the consumption of indigenous produce, especially mustard and soyabean, has reduced and only needy farmers have sold a little. Its stock is still left with the farmers. On the other hand, imported sunflower oil was sold in bulk at ports at 4-5 per cent lower than the import cost, and soybean oil was more or less the same.
Due to low losses in palm palmolein and the compulsion of banks to keep running letters of credit (LC), importers are expected to reduce the import of ‘soft oil’ like sunflower and soybean in the country due to turning to palm, palmolein is being made Sources said that cottonseed is almost over and now it can be available only after the next crop of cottonseed.
