Happy Women’s Day 2023: Rural women lag behind in keeping phones, ahead of urban women in terms of bank account and property

Ranchi, Rajiv Pandey. The situation of women empowerment has improved in Jharkhand. According to the report of NFHS-V (year 2020-21), 49 percent women of the state have their own mobile phone. This has increased by 13.8 per cent from FFHS-IV (2015-16). However, compared to urban women, rural women are still lagging behind in this matter. 65.2 percent of urban women and 43.7 percent of rural women have their own mobile phone. However, in terms of bank account and property, the women of the village are ahead of the urban women.
NFHS-V In the report of Jharkhand, 79.6 percent women have their own savings bank account. Of this, 79.8 percent are with rural women and 79.2 percent with urban women. Apart from this, rural women are also ahead in terms of property. 66.5 percent of the village and 57.4 percent of the women of the village have property (house or land) in their name.
Urban women are more aware of cleanliness during menstruation
Urban women of the state are more aware about cleanliness during menstruation. 88.2 percent of urban women and 70.8 percent of rural women take care of hygiene during menstruation. Experts believe that due to lack of awareness and education, rural women do not give priority to hygiene during menstruation.
Low participation of village women in domestic decisions
The rural women of the state do not participate in household decisions. According to the NFHS-5 report, 94.6 percent women of the city participate in important decisions of the house. At the same time, the condition of the women of the village is at the lowest level in this matter. According to statistics, only 89.8 percent women of the village are able to take part in domestic decisions.
Village women are more victims of domestic violence
According to the NFHS-5 report, the women of the village are more victims of domestic violence. 33.4 percent of married women (18-49 years) of the village who were ever subjected to violence. However, in this case, this has happened with 2.1 percent of the women of the city. At the same time, 3.4 percent of rural women have experienced physical violence during pregnancy. Apart from this, 1.5 rural girls aged 18-29 have become victims of violence.
