High level delegation from India meets the President of Sri Lanka

A high-level delegation from India met Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Sunday and apprised him of the progress made in bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. Wickremesinghe met an Indian delegation on a visit to Sri Lanka led by Pankaj Jain, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. During this, the Sri Lankan President also gave his advice on issues related to early steps towards the identified priority areas for energy cooperation.
In a statement issued here, the Indian High Commission said that India will also gift 500 solar-powered indoor cooking systems to Sri Lanka. Lanka India Oil Company, the local unit of state-owned petroleum company Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), said that IOC Chairman Shrikant Madhav Vaidya along with the Petroleum Secretary also visited its terminal in Trincomalee. India and Sri Lanka jointly operate this oil storage tank built during the Second World War. Sri Lanka had signed an agreement with India for joint development of an oil storage complex in Trincomalee last year when the energy crisis deepened. The Indian delegation is expected to hold extensive discussions with the Sri Lankan petroleum industry. During this, there will be special emphasis on increasing mutual cooperation.
