Holi Badrang: LPG cylinder costlier by Rs 50, subsidy only to those under Ujjwala Yojana

New Delhi : Petroleum companies have imposed another burden of inflation on the people of India who are already facing the brunt of inflation. The Holi of the common man became colorful. The country’s petroleum distribution companies have increased the price of LPG cylinders by about Rs 50. According to a report in the news agency Bhasha, the price of cooking gas has been increased by Rs 50 per cylinder on Wednesday, while the price of aviation fuel (ATF) has been cut by four percent. However, it is a matter of fact that the prices of LPG have increased after about 8 months. This increase has been made after the assembly elections in three states of the Northeast, which have been strongly criticized by the opposition parties.
Cylinder will be available in Delhi for Rs 1103
According to news agency Bhasha news, a price notification issued by a petroleum marketing company said that the price of LPG or cooking gas in Delhi has been increased from Rs 1,053 to Rs 1,103 per cylinder (14.2 kg). This is the first increase after July, 2022. Public sector Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) said that the price of 14.2 kg non-subsidised LPG cylinder is Rs 1,103.
No subsidy for non-Ujjwalas
The government does not provide any subsidy to most of the non-Ujjwala users. The government gives a subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder to 9.58 crore poor people who get free LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The effective price for them will be Rs 903 per cylinder.
Most expensive cylinder in Chennai
As per the latest increase, LPG price is now Rs 1,102.50 per cylinder in Mumbai, Rs 1,129 per cylinder in Kolkata and Rs 1,118.50 per cylinder in Chennai.
Rs 350 hike in 19 kg gas cylinder
Similarly, the price of gas cylinders for commercial use has been increased by Rs 350.5 to Rs 2,119.5 per cylinder (19 kg). Commercial LPG rates were last increased by Rs 25 per cylinder in January.
Opposition said attack
The opposition has criticized the government for increasing the prices of domestic LPG before Holi. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said in a tweet that inflation in the Narendra Modi government is breaking the back of the common man. Shiv Sena-Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’s Priyanka Chaturvedi said that this is the Holi gift given by the Modi government.
