New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will investigate Oxfram India, a British body of 21 independent charitable organizations around the world that focus on global poverty alleviation. The Union Home Ministry on Thursday recommended a CBI inquiry against a non-governmental organization (NGO) named Oxford India. According to media reports quoting sources, a CBI inquiry has been recommended on Oxfam India on charges of violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act-2010 (FRCA-2010). It has been told in the report that even after FRCA was implemented in India, Oxfam India continued to transfer money to different organizations in foreign accounts.
Money transfer continues in foreign accounts
Sources said that the Union Home Ministry on Thursday recommended a CBI inquiry into the affairs of Oxfam India for alleged violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act-2010. The home ministry found that Oxfam India continued to transfer contributions to various entities in foreign accounts despite being registered under the FCRA, which prohibits such transfers.
Revealed in income tax survey
Sources said several emails were found during a survey conducted by the Income Tax Department, which showed that Oxfam India was allegedly flouting the provisions of the FCRA by channeling funds to other FCRA-registered associations or through the not-for-profit counseling route. Was planning to bypass. He said the Income Tax survey exposed Oxfam India as a possible instrument of foreign policy of foreign organizations or entities that have generously funded the organization over the years.
Money sent to CPR as commission
Sources said that Oxfam India, registered for running social activities, allegedly sent funds to the Center for Policy Research (CPR) through its associates and employees in the form of commission. He said that it was after these revelations that the Ministry of Home Affairs recommended a CBI inquiry into the affairs of Oxfam India.
