san francisco (Uttam Hindu News): Vice Media CEO Bruce Dixon has said the company will lay off hundreds of employees and stop publishing content on its website as it plans to transition to a social platform. .
Dixon informed employees of the development in a memo obtained by The Washington Post and said affected workers would be notified early next week.
“As part of this change, we will no longer publish content on Vice.com,” Dixon said. “We will instead place greater emphasis on our social channels as we accelerate our discussions with partners to get our content where it will be most widely seen.”
“Sadly, this means we will be reducing our workforce,” he said. Will eliminate several hundred posts.
In the memorandum, the CEO said that it is now becoming more expensive for the Vice Media company to distribute its digital content like before.
Vice Media now joins the long list of publishers that have had to lay off staff in recent months.
Messenger, a startup news outlet, shut down last month. Business Insider cut 8 percent of its staff and BuzzFeed said it would cut 16 percent of its workforce.
Last year, Vice Media laid off more than 100 employees as part of a restructuring of its global organizations, as well as shutting down its Vice News Tonight broadcast.
