IEX to introduce higher priced ‘Day Ahead Market’ segment next month

Earlier this month, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) allowed three categories of power producers to participate in the HP-DAM market on a petition by IEX.
The Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) plans to introduce the high price day ahead market segment by mid-March, which will enable power producers to sell power at rates as high as Rs 50 per unit. Earlier this month, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) allowed three categories of power producers to participate in the HP-DAM market on a petition by IEX. These include gas-based power stations using imported RLNG and naphtha, thermal power plants using only imported coal, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Rohit Bajaj, Head – Business Development, Regulatory Affairs and Strategy, IEX said, “IEX receives CERC approval to introduce High Value Day Ahead Market (HP-DAM) in Integrated Next Day Market (I-DAM) segment Has been.” The current price of electricity in the Day Ahead Market (DAM) on Energy Exchange is Rs 12 per unit.
