The whole incident started when Barindra Singh, a friend of Amritpal, posted some posts against Amritpal on social media. On this, other companions of Amritpal picked him up and took him to where he was allegedly assaulted.

On Thursday, February 23, thousands of armed supporters of Jathedar Amritpal Singh of the pro-Khalistan organization ‘Waris Punjab De’ captured the police station in Ajnala town of Punjab and succeeded in bowing down the police to free their colleague Lovepreet Singh Toofan. The whole incident is a serious challenge to the law and order situation as well as to the entire state which cannot be taken lightly. Regarding the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in the state, former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and many intellectuals had warned at the time of elections that a sensitive state like Punjab, which is a victim of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, should be given in the hands of inexperienced leadership. . Today that apprehension seems to be bearing fruit. The way a mob of thousands of fanatics armed with guns, swords and spears created havoc in the police station under the guise of Guru Granth Sahib, such an incident did not happen even at the time when Khalistani terrorism was at its peak in the state.

The whole incident started when Barindra Singh, a friend of Amritpal, posted some posts against Amritpal on social media. On this, other companions of Amritpal picked him up and took him to where he was allegedly assaulted. On the complaint of Barindra Singh, the police of Ajnala police station registered a case against Amritpal along with five of his associates and 25 unknown people and also arrested Amritpal’s accomplice Lovepreet Singh Toofan. Describing this Lovepreet Singh as innocent, Amritpal was demanding his release and to get him released, his armed supporters attacked the police station. Under pressure, the police tried to set up a special investigation team on the whole matter and to free themselves by saying that the storm should be released. Analysts believe that by doing this the police have saved their lives, but the apprehension of its serious consequences has become stronger. This will not only increase the morale of Khalistani anarchists but on the other hand the morale of the police forces may also fall. The people of the state are already scared and silent from these elements.

Separatism in Punjab is a three-and-a-half decades old problem. In the nineties it was almost considered dead but the separatist forces sitting abroad did not allow this spark to be completely extinguished. Sometimes in the guise of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and sometimes in the guise of release of Sikh prisoners from jails, anti-national poison was being filled in the minds of Sikh youth. Our system and political parties have also turned their backs on this threat. Not only this, the new entrant in the country’s politics, the Aam Aadmi Party has started experimenting with it for the sake of power in Punjab. The farmer’s movement, which lasted for more than a year on the border of Delhi, gave an opportunity to the separatist forces sitting in the country and abroad to increase their mass base and strength, then after the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in Punjab, facing the allegation of being pro-Khalistan. The spirits of the Shaktis started getting higher.

Meanwhile, the toxic nexus of terrorists, gangsters and smugglers started coming to the fore in the state and terrorist activities started taking place in the state from time to time. Even though Gurpawant Singh Pannu, the mastermind of Sikhs for Justice sitting abroad, has been the center of Khalistani activities, but separatism inside Punjab was like a pus-filled abscess which has not yet come out. Jathedar Amritpal Singh of ‘Waris Punjab De’ has tried to fill the lack of leadership, who is radicalizing the Sikh youth of the state today in the name of Amrit Sanchar. It may also be mentioned here that the Waris Punjab De organization was formed by Deep Sidhu, who was a product of the farmer’s movement and accused of Red Fort violence, and Amritpal, who returned from Dubai after his death in a car accident, took over the reins of this organization. People associated with this organization and followers of Amritpal have challenged the country’s system by attacking the police station in Ajnala. The way in which the inexperienced government of Punjab is adopting the policy of indecisiveness towards these separatist forces, the danger is going to increase further.

It has been seen that the separatist forces have taken the end of the farmer’s movement as their victory and are now trying to get their points convinced on the strength of violence. In the past, violence was witnessed in Mohali during the ongoing march for the release of prisoner Sikhs. Last year people with similar mindset had created a ruckus near Kali Mandir in Patiala. Not only this, Khalistani elements have started violence against Indians even in America, England, Germany, Australia. The trend of violence is increasing day by day. If it is not treated in time, then the coming time can present an even more difficult challenge.
