The central government has allocated Rs 1.96 lakh crore for the Ministry of Home Affairs. In this, most of the amount is proposed to be spent by the government on Central Armed Police Forces and intelligence gathering. In a clear message about its priorities on internal security, the central government on Wednesday proposed an allocation of Rs 1.96 lakh crore for the home ministry, with most of the expenditure going to the Central Armed Police Forces and intelligence gathering. An allocation of Rs 1,96,034.94 crore has been made to the Ministry of Home Affairs for the year 2023-24. The budget allocation for the ministry was marked at Rs 1,85,776.55 crore in the budget for 2022-23. Major chunks in the budget have been allocated for infrastructure along the international border, police infrastructure and modernization of police forces.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for the financial year 2023-24 on Wednesday. Out of this, Rs 1,27,756.74 crore has been allocated for the Central Armed Police Forces. The allocation for the current financial year stood at Rs 1,19,070.36 crore. In the Central Armed Police Forces, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been allocated Rs 31,772.23 crore, while Rs 31,495.88 crore was allocated in 2022-23. The force is primarily responsible for internal security and combating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The Border Security Force (BSF), which guards India’s border with Pakistan and Bangladesh and handles internal security responsibilities, has been proposed to be given Rs 24,771.28 crore as against Rs 23,557.51 crore for the current financial year.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards vital places like nuclear plants, airports and metro networks, has been allocated Rs 13,214.68 crore, up from Rs 12,293.23 crore in 2022-23. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), which guards India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan, has been allocated Rs 8,329.10 crore. In 2022-23, Rs 8,019.78 crore was allocated to it. Similarly, Rs 8,096.89 crore to Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Rs 7,052.46 crore to Assam Rifles, Rs 1,286.54 crore to National Security Guard (NSG), Rs 3,418.32 crore to Intelligence Bureau (IB), Special Protection Group (SPG) It is proposed to allocate Rs 433.59 crore to Police and Rs 11,662.03 crore to Delhi Police. Similarly, an allocation of Rs 3,545.03 crore has been made for the development of border infrastructure, Rs 3636.66 crore for the development of police infrastructure and Rs 3,750 crore for the modernization of police forces in the country.
