New Delhi, 26 August (Hindustan Times). The Income Tax Department has appealed to the taxpayers to verify the Income Tax Return (ITR) filed for the financial year 2022-23. If you have filed ITR, then its verification is necessary. Without this the ITR form is considered incomplete. The last step to file income tax return is not form submission, but verification.
The Income Tax Department in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday called upon income tax payers to verify their ITRs. The department has written in its post that dear taxpayers should complete their e-filing process today itself. Do not forget to verify your ITR within 30 days of filing. Late verification of ITR may attract late fee as per the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
This is how ITR can be verified
Income tax return can be verified online and offline, in total six ways. Of these, 5 methods are online and one method is offline. Online ITR verification can be done with the help of OTP received on registered mobile number, bank account, demat account, ATM and netbanking. At the same time, verification of ITR can also be done by sending the signed copy of ITR-V form to the Income Tax Department by post. The Income Tax Department has issued refunds worth Rs 72,215 crore between April 1 and August 21. Of this, Rs 37,775 crore tax refund has been given to companies, while Rs 34,406 crore has been credited to the bank accounts of individual income tax payers, but still many people have not received the refund. In such a situation, if you have not yet verified ITR, then do not delay, verify your ITR today itself.
