A major reason for this is that the taxpayer has not verified his bank account itself. CBDT said that due to non-verification of bank account, it is unable to send even approved refunds. CBDT has requested taxpayers to verify their bank accounts for refund through the e-filing portal.

So far 6.98 crore people have paid tax

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that more than 6.98 crore income tax returns have been filed for the income earned in the financial year 2022-23, out of which more than six crore have been processed. CBDT, the apex body related to income tax and corporate tax, said in a statement that in the case of some income tax returns (ITR), the department is not able to process them due to non-provision of some information or not taking necessary steps on the part of the taxpayers. According to the CBDT, out of the total ITR filed for the financial year 2022-23, about 14 lakh returns have not yet been verified by the taxpayers. Apart from this, the department has sought additional information related to income from 12 lakh taxpayers and in this regard they have been informed about the e-filing accounts. Along with this, some ITR depositors have not yet verified their bank accounts.

88 percent processing completed

CBDT said that in the tax assessment year 2023-24, till September 5, a total of 6.98 crore ITRs have been submitted, out of which 6.84 crore returns have been verified. More than six crore ITRs ie 88 percent of the total verified returns have been processed. The Income Tax Department has issued refunds to more than 2.45 crore return depositors. After submitting the income tax return, it is necessary to verify it. Only after that the Income Tax Department processes that return and settles the refund claims. The average time taken to process ITR was 82 days in AY 2019-20 and 16 days in AY 2022-23. This time has been reduced to 10 days for the assessment year 2023-24.

After filling the income tax, it is necessary to do its e-verification. For this, 120 days time is given by the Income Tax Department. To get the verification done, first of all, e-file your income tax return. After e-filing the return, you are given options to select e-verification. You can verify your return using e-verification and get refund without internet banking or demat account linking bank account. Various methods are available to you for e-verification. In this there is Aadhaar OTP based verification. Perform e-verification by receiving OTP with your Aadhaar number. Apart from this, you can also get verification done with your bank account. You can also do the verification using your demat account.

The Income Tax Department said that Advance Ruling Boards have been made operational in Delhi and Mumbai. These boards will work through email-based procedures and conduct hearings through video conferences. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) constituted three boards in September 2021 for advance ruling. Along with this, the scheme of e-advance ruling was launched to make the entire process of advance ruling more efficient, transparent and accountable with minimum direct physical intervention. CBDT said in a statement that the Advance Ruling Board has started functioning in Delhi and Mumbai. These boards have started working through e-mail-based procedures and conducting hearings through video conferences.

Income Tax Department launched its website in a new look with user friendly interface, improved features and new modules. The new website was launched by Nitin Gupta, Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) at a ‘Chintan Shivir’ organized by the Directorate of Income Tax (Systems) in Udaipur. In order to improve the taxpayer experience and keep pace with the new technology, the Income Tax Department has revamped its national website with a user-friendly interface, enhanced features and new modules, the CBDT said in a statement. The new website has been redesigned with a mobile friendly layout. The website also has a ‘Mega Menu’ for content with new features.
