We can reduce pollution by 40 per cent by not using fossil fuels like petrol and diesel, Gadkari said while addressing the Green Energy Summit here. The conference was organized by Confederation of Renewable Energy Services Professionals and Industry in association with IIT-Delhi, IIT-Ropar and University of Delhi. He said, we import fossil fuels worth Rs 16 lakh crore every year. This is a big economic challenge for us.
This also causes pollution. Apart from this, we also import coal worth Rs 12 lakh crore. Gadkari stressed on the importance of institutions like IITs to bring in new technology to promote clean and green energy. He said that the new technology should be need based, economically viable and raw material should be available for it.
