Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India needs to become economically self-reliant in the next 10 years, so that the nation is not too influenced by global factors. At a program organized to mark the completion of 90 years of the Reserve Bank, the Prime Minister said that a lot of work will be created for everyone when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) comes to power for the third time in June.
He said, we have to increase India’s economic self-reliance. Modi said the banking sector has turned profitable and credit growth is increasing due to efforts made by his government and the RBI in the last decade. He further said that the gross non-performing assets (NPAs) of public sector banks, which stood at about 11.25 per cent in 2018, will come down to less than three per cent by September, 2023.
Modi said the problem of twin balance sheets (problems at the level of books of accounts of banks and companies) is now a thing of the past and banks are now registering 15 per cent growth in credit. The Prime Minister said that RBI has played an important role in all these achievements.
