New Delhi . Nasscom, the apex body of the technology industry, said on Monday that India remains a top priority country for enterprises expanding digital services. It is also expected that companies will increase spending on AI, data analytics and cyber security. NASSCOM has said this in a report titled ‘Digital Enterprise Maturity 5.0: Digital Readiness in the Age of AI’. It is based on a survey of 550 enterprises across 11 key sectors and seven key geographies.

The survey found that last year, 71 percent of the enterprises in the country spent more than 20 percent of their technology expenditure on digital. “Nearly 90 per cent of companies have indicated plans to boost investment in key digital technology areas including AI, machine learning, big data analytics, cloud computing, cyber security and intelligent automation in 2024,” it said. According to the report, by the first half of 2025, the focus of companies is expected to be mainly towards cyber security. The reason for this is that a large number of companies have talked about adopting ‘generic AI’.

It has emerged as a major technology in the last year. Nasscom said that the progress made in ‘Generative AI’ has given more emphasis on digital talent. 83 percent of enterprises surveyed said that more than six percent of their total workforce is in digital roles. The report said sectors such as banks, financial services and insurance (BFSI), high technology, telecom, media and entertainment as well as energy and power companies are expanding their digital service contracts.

It said India remains a preferred ‘outsourcing’ destination for companies aiming to build and expand their digital services portfolio. More than 50 per cent of companies in travel and transportation, telecom, media and entertainment and construction and engineering sectors are choosing it for their ‘outsourcing’ needs.
