Hyderabad. Darren Hulst, Boeing vice president of commercial marketing, said on Friday that India will need the supply of more than 2,500 new aircraft by 2042 due to increased mobility. South Asian companies are projected to quadruple the size of their fleets over the next two decades to meet growing passenger and freighter demand, Hulst told a news conference. They will need more than 2,705 new aircraft to cope with growth and fleet replacement.

He said, “By 2042, India will need more than 92 percent of that, i.e. more than 2,500 out of 2,705.” This is based on an estimate made in the middle of last year. “We estimate that airlines here (South Asia, including India) will need to supply more than 2,700 aircraft by the year 2042,” Hulst said. According to Boeing, India is the only major economy, a major market, in Asia that has recovered to pre-pandemic levels in terms of demand both domestically and internationally.

He also said that it is expected that India’s cargo fleet will reach 80 aircraft in the next 20 years, whereas currently it has only 15 cargo aircraft. On the question of delay in the supply of aircraft due to the recent incident in America in which the door of a Boeing aircraft flew into the air, Hulst said, “We do not think that this will cause any delay.”
