India will not make its policies according to Tesla, all global EV companies welcome

New Delhi. India will not base its policies according to American electric vehicle manufacturing company Tesla. The country’s laws and tariff regulations will be tailored to attract all electric vehicle manufacturers. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said this. Tesla is asking for an initial charge concession before coming to India. This will help it ‘offset’ 70 per cent customs duty for cars priced below US$40,000 and 100 per cent customs duty for cars priced above US$40,000.
Goyal said the government understands the need for a strong EV ecosystem, as greater use of battery-powered vehicles will cut carbon emissions as well as the crude oil import bill. He also added that for this, the government will not make such policies which are beneficial for any one company, but such policies will be made which will encourage all the electric vehicle manufacturers of the world to come to India. He said work on several initiatives in this regard is ongoing, and inter-ministerial consultations and interactions with stakeholders are underway. He said that talks are also going on with potential investors from Europe, America, Japan, South Korea and across the world.
India has high duties on motor vehicles, aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing. This is a big issue for foreign car manufacturers. “The government does not make policies for any one company or its interests,” he said. Everyone is free to put forward their demand, but it does not mean that the government will take a decision based on their demand.” Goyal was responding to a question on whether the government would give any concession to Tesla to set up a manufacturing facility in India. Is considering giving.
