New Delhi. NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand said India’s agro-chemical industry has the potential to grow beyond the current nine per cent despite competition from China. Chand said that many western countries are now using bio-pesticides in place of agro-chemicals and Indian industry needs to pay attention to this aspect. He urged the Agro Chem Federation of India (ACFI) to bring a resolution on easing the trade of agro chemicals.
Chand, a member of NITI Aayog, said this during a discussion on the sidelines of the 6th Annual General Meeting of ACFI in the national capital on Wednesday. “The agrochemical industry has achieved a remarkable nine per cent growth…Most of this growth rate was achieved during the years of the COVID-19 pandemic when production activities were severely affected,” he said. Said that despite economic and production disruptions, the domestic agrochemical industry has shown impressive growth between 2017-18 and 2022-23. He said, “We can easily increase this growth rate to more than nine percent.
