The Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) has demanded the removal of rules allegedly discriminatory against Indian companies and promoting imports in the upcoming Excise Policy 2023-24 of the Delhi government.
CIABC, an association of Indian liquor companies, has written to the Delhi government demanding a level playing field for products made in India. The Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) has demanded the removal of rules allegedly discriminatory against Indian companies and promoting imports in the upcoming Excise Policy 2023-24 of the Delhi government.
The body representing Indian liquor manufacturers urged the upcoming excise policy for the next financial year to enhance ease of doing business, simplify the process of new product launches and digitize all operational processes. These are old regulatory anomalies, the CIABC said, when India was considered a low-quality wine producer.
For instance, the license fee for imported whiskey is Rs 50,000 per year, but if the same product is made in India, the amount is a minimum of Rs 25 lakh. The body said that the Delhi government’s November 2021 excise policy had addressed these issues, but with its withdrawal, the matter has returned to the old situation.
