New Delhi : If you are going to travel in trains after years and see a change in the color and design of trains on the platform of railway stations, then don’t be surprised. Because, on the lines of Vande Bharat, Indian Railways is planning to make semi-high speed by installing automatic doors and two engines in all the trains running on the tracks in India as well as making it standard. According to a report in the English newspaper The Indian Express, along with the Central Government, the Indian Railways is planning to make changes in other trains operating in the country in the next few years, just like the Vande Bharat Express train. It has been told in the report that Indian Railways is working towards standardizing the trains.
Railways will make necessary changes in trains
According to media reports, the necessary changes will be made by the Indian Railways to standardize trains, including automatic doors in all trains, anti-jerk couplers to protect passengers traveling in trains from sudden jerks and two engines to pull train bogies, so that necessary changes can be made in trains to make them a low-cost alternative to semi-high speed trainsets. Apart from this, pull-push system will also be used to run the trains on the railway tracks, under which two engines will be installed in the train. One engine will be at the front and the other engine at the rear of the train. The advantage of installing two engines at the front and back of the trains would be that the time taken for trains to change tracks would be saved and the travel time for the passengers would be reduced.
Pull-push system installed in Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express from 2019
According to the information given by the official sources of Indian Railways, from the year 2019 Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express is being operated under pull-push system with two engines. He said that the Railway Board has decided to install this system in other express, mail and passenger trains of the country as well. He says that the low-cost semi-high speed train runs at a speed of about 160 kilometers per hour.
Work in progress at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works
Railway Board sources said that work is going on at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works to standardize Indian Railways trains with two engines and automatic doors. He said that work on modification of WAP-5 and WAP-7 category locomotives capable of such speed is being done at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works. He told that by October this year, a rake of semi-high speed train with two engines and automatic doors is expected to arrive. He said that the purpose of standardizing Rollink stock is to reduce the cost of maintenance of trains in future.
Routes have been identified
He informed that the Railways has already identified routes to run regular trains with only general coaches and non-AC sleeper class. Railway sources said that in the routes identified by the Railways to run these trains, many areas including eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh will be connected to big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kerala. He told that these will be regular trains and will be operated throughout the year. It is also being told that after the running of these trains, seasonal special trains will also be run separately by the Railways to control the crowd.
Vande Bharat train was known as Train 18
Let us tell that Vande Bharat Express was earlier known as Train 18, which is an Indian semi-high speed train and India’s first engineless train. It is also the first train to be completely designed and manufactured in India. It was designed and built by the Coach Factory (ICF) of Chennai in 18 months under the Make in India initiative of the Central Government. The cost of making the first rake unit was about Rs 100 crore. The first trial run of the Vande Bharat Express train by the Railways took place in Chennai on 29 November 2018.
