Mumbai Domestic markets Sensex and Nifty fell in early trade on Tuesday as volatility continued amid mixed trends in global markets. BSE’s 30-share Sensex opened on a positive note and rose 116.42 points to reach 71,188.91. However, it soon fell by 129.92 points to 70,942.57 points. Similarly, Nifty initially rose by 14.80 points to reach 21,630.85 points, but soon lost its lead and fell by 63.25 points to 21,552.80 points.

Among Sensex companies, shares of Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Power Grid and Wipro remained in the red, while shares of ICICI Bank, NTPC, ITC and Kotak Bank gained. The BSE Smallcap index fell 1.65 per cent, the Midcap index declined 0.57 per cent and the Largecap index slipped 0.12 per cent. In other Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei and China’s Shanghai Composite were in gain, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was in loss.

US markets closed with mixed sentiment on Monday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were up 0.09 percent at US $ 82.07 per barrel. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) had bought shares worth Rs 126.60 crore on Monday.
