On the last day of the Manasutra session of Parliament, Home Minister Amit Shah made changes in the criminal laws made by the British or it can also be said It is said that three Bills have been introduced in the Lok Sabha to Indianise them. These Bills will replace Indian Penal Code (IPC)-1860, Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC)-1898 and Indian Evidence Act (IEC)-1872 respectively. Shah said, 313 changes are being made in these laws. This will bring a radical change in the criminal justice system and ensure justice to all in three years. Presenting the bill, Shah reminded Prime Minister Modi’s five vows from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the last Independence Day. He said, one of these vows was to remove all traces of slavery in the country. These bills are fulfilling a vow of Modi. Describing it as a historic moment, Shah said, the country is entering Amritkal from this 15th August. These bills will be helpful in achieving the goal of building a developed India from Amritkal till 2047. Shah said, with a comprehensive change in the criminal justice system, the CrPC will now have 533 sections. Changes have been made in 160 sections. Nine new sections have been added, the same number of sections have been removed. Provisions have been made to eliminate 475 signs of slavery in all the three codes. Home Minister Amit Shah has said that provisions have been made to make the punishment more stringent for those who commit crimes against women and girls. A separate new law has been made for rape of a minor below 16 years of age. Under this, the punishment has been increased to 20 years. There is a provision of death penalty for gang rape of a minor. Rape of a minor below 12 years of age will be punishable by a minimum of 20 years in prison or the death penalty. If the victim dies after the rape, there is a provision of imprisonment ranging from 20 years to rigorous life imprisonment. At present, the minimum punishment for raping a minor is 7 years. It has been said on behalf of the government that apart from 18 states, 6 union territories, Supreme Court, 22 High Courts, judicial institutions, 142 MPs and 270 MLAs, the public has also given suggestions regarding these bills. After four years of discussion and 158 meetings during this period, the government has introduced the bill. The first meeting for these changes was held in September 2019 in room number G-74 of the Parliament House Library.
With the implementation of the three bills proposed by the Central Government, changes in the criminal legal process made by the two-century-old British rule, where the feeling of slavery will end, it will be easier to get justice and the number of cases in the courts will also reduce.

Significantly, all the three Bills have been sent to the Standing Committee of the Parliament. The Supreme Court has already criticized provisions like sedition. More strict provisions have been made in the new laws. There can be contradictions in the committee on such issues. If the report of the committee does not come before the winter session, then the bill will be canceled after the end of the term of the Lok Sabha.

It will be the effort of the government to get all the three bills passed with consent before the expiry of the time of the Lok Sabha.
The basic reason behind the increasing number of cases in the country’s judiciary is the law and legal process made by the British government. There was a need to Indianize all these immediately after getting independence. The laws and judicial process made by the British government cannot fulfill the demand of Indian democracy. Realizing this and looking at the time and circumstances, the three Bills brought by the Central Government are steps in the right direction.
