The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme launched by the government for 14 sectors has brought investment of Rs 1.06 lakh crore in the country till December 2023. Medicines and solar modules have contributed almost half of the total investment. According to government data, till December last year, there has been less investment in sectors like information technology, hardware, vehicles and its parts, textiles and ACC (Advanced Chemical Cell) battery storage. The government has approved investment in 14 sectors such as telecom, electronic goods, textiles, medical devices manufacturing, vehicles, special steel, food products, high-efficiency and PV modules, advanced chemicals batteries, drones and pharmaceuticals with an outlay of Rs 1.97 lakh crore in 2021. It is also the largest IT hub. It contributes 8.2 percent to the country’s GDP. • Hyderabad is the center of IT, outsource industry. It accounts for 4.8 percent of the country’s GDP. • Gurgaon has 250 Fortune 500 companies. This is the second largest IT and third largest financial hub. It accounts for 1 percent of GDP.
