Sanyal said, in terms of sovereign rating, if India is to be given a proper rating, it should be at least one notch higher, if not two. There is no reason for India to be at the bottom of the investment category.

Kolkata. Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, said that global credit rating agencies should give India at least one or two notches above the current rating. Sanyal said that the rating agencies given to India are completely absurd. Sanyal said, in terms of sovereign rating, if India is to be given a proper rating, it should be at least one notch higher, if not two. There is no reason for India to be at the bottom of the investment category. He was speaking at CareAge Conversations here on Monday.

Sanyal said the structure of rating agencies should be questioned and India should realize that they can be easily replaced. “Why should we follow the rules and norms of the West which we had no role in making… like there are many indices where we rank below 100,” he said.
