New Delhi. The unemployment rate for people aged 15 years and above in the country stood at a six-year low of 3.2 percent between July 2022 and June 2023. This came to light in a government survey. Unemployment or unemployment rate is defined as the percentage of unemployed people in the labor force. Unemployment rate (UR) under normal conditions for people aged 15 years and above at the national level between July 2022 and June 2023 as per the Periodic Labor Force Survey Annual Report 2022-2023 released by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO). Decreased from 4.1 percent in 2021-22 to 3.2 percent in 2022-23.
Usual status means that employment (status of a person) has been determined on the basis of 365 days preceding the date of survey. According to the Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS) data released on Monday, the unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in 2020-21, 4.8 percent in 2019-20, 5.8 percent in 2018-19 and six percent in 2017-18. According to the report, “The unemployment rate in rural areas is expected to decline from 5.3 percent in 2017-18 to 2.4 percent in 2022-23.” For urban areas, it declined from 7.7 percent to 5.4 percent.” The survey revealed, ”The unemployment rate among men in India declined from 6.1 percent in 2017-18 to 3.3 percent in 2022-23. The unemployment rate among women decreased from 5.6 percent to 2.9 percent.
