san francisco (Best Hindu News): Meta-owned Instagram will roll out a new feature to better protect users from unwanted DM requests. According to the report of TechCrunch, the company started testing this feature in June. With this new feature, people who want to send DM requests to users who don’t follow them will face two new restrictions.
Firstly, users will be able to send just one message to someone who doesn’t follow them as opposed to sending them an infinite amount of DM requests. Second, DM invites are now text-based only, which means users can only send photo, video or audio messages to people who don’t follow them after the recipient accepts the invite to chat.
According to Instagram, with the new restrictions, users will no longer receive unwanted images or videos from people they don’t follow, nor will strangers send them repeated messages. “We want people to feel confident and in control when they open their inbox,” Cindy Southworth, head of women’s safety at Meta, said in an emailed statement.
The report said, “The app has a ‘hidden words’ setting, where DM requests containing offensive words, phrases and emojis are automatically sent to a hidden folder. Instagram also has a ‘Limits’ feature that protects users from sudden spikes in unwanted comments or DM requests.” In July, the platform introduced some upgrades to Reels Templates, which help users easily create inspired and engaging reels.
Meta also announced that it is launching real-time avatar calls on Instagram and Messenger. This feature will be helpful when users do not want to show their real face during video calls and want a third option between camera-off and camera-on.
