International Dance Day 2023: Every year on 29 April ‘International Dance Day’ is celebrated globally. The value and importance of dance is celebrated on this day. History of International Dance Day
UNESCO’s International Theater Institute’s International Dance Committee had announced to celebrate this day on 29 April 1982, on the birthday of the great dancer Jean-Georges Navarre. Since then every year this day is celebrated with pomp all over the world. Let us tell you that Navera was a French ballet dancer who wrote a book on dance named ‘Letters on the Dance’ in which everything related to dance art is present. Who originated the dance?
It is said that 2000 years ago in Tretayuga, on the request of the deities, Brahmaji prepared the Nritya Veda, since then the origin of dance is considered in the world. Many things from Samveda, Atharvaveda, Yajurveda and Rigveda were included in this Nritya Veda. When the creation of the Nritya Veda was completed, the practice of dancing was practiced by the hundred sons of Bharatamuni.

Kathakali
Kathakali dance came from the state of Kerala in the 17th century. In this dance, a complete story is shown with attractive costumes, gestures and physical dance. In this dance, the artist’s makeup is done in dark colors, so that his facial expression can be clearly visible.
Mohiniyattam
Mohiniyattam dance shows the artist’s love and devotion towards God. In this, the dancer dances wearing a white saree with golden border, along with heavy ornaments are also worn. Simple makeup is done in this.
Odyssey
This major dance of the state of Orissa is going to show its worship and love towards Lord Krishna. There is independent movement of the head, chest and pelvis in this dance. Its image is visible in the hills of Udayagiri located in Bhubaneswar. The artefacts of this dance are built on Lord Jagannath’s temple Puri and Sun Temple Konark built in Odisha.
Kathak
This dance originated from Uttar Pradesh, in which Natwari style of Radhakrishna is displayed. Kathak derives its name from the Sanskrit words Kahani and Kathartha. After the arrival of Mughal Raj, when this dance started being performed in the Muslim court, entertainment dominated this dance.
bharatanatyam
This classical dance is from the state of Tamil Nadu. In olden times this dance was mainly performed by female dancers in temples. Who were called Devadasis. This traditional dance is known for kindness, purity and tenderness. This traditional dance is considered popular all over the world.
Kuchipudi
This dance of Andhra Pradesh state is also known as Lord Mela Natakam. In this dance, the song, the character’s mood begins with a play. Carnatic music is specially used in this. Along with this, there is accompaniment of violin, mridangam, flute. The ornaments “berugu” worn by the artist are made of very light wood.
Manipuri
This dance of Manipuri state is one of the classical dance forms. The style of this dance is called Jogai. In ancient times, this dance has been given the noun of the planets revolving around the Sun. Once upon a time, when Lord Krishna, Radha and the gopis were performing Rasleela, Lord Shiva had prohibited anyone from going there, but on the express desire of Mother Parvati, Lord Shiva got this dance done in Manipur.
