New Delhi. Union Power Minister RK Singh has asked the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to promote grid-scale solar power projects in African countries to help them get green funding. The Power Minister said this during a conversation with the French delegation that met him on Tuesday. The Ministry of Power gave this information in a statement on Wednesday. According to the statement, the Union Minister stressed the need for ISA to scale up solar power projects, especially in African countries.
“ISA should establish a de-risking mechanism and also tap more green funds and thus promote grid-scale solar power projects in the African continent,” the ministry quoted him as saying. He said that economically strong countries will prepare renewable energy fund by themselves but poor countries will need green fund. The Union Minister said, “We have to help countries that need funds.”
Both sides also discussed the idea of ISA holding a conference in Kenya. Singh told the delegates that despite India’s per capita carbon emissions being one-third of the global average, the country is at the forefront of renewable energy adoption from conventional energy. He said that about 43 per cent of India’s capacity is based on non-fossil fuel and the country is committed to reduce carbon emission intensity to 45 per cent by 2030.
