In August 1910, an International Women’s Conference was organized by Clara Zetkin, a German suffragist and leader of the Women’s Office. Zetkin proposed to hold a special Women’s Day annually and in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland the following year. On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified and white women were allowed to enter the U.S. Was given the right to vote.
