Karnataka’s Hubli Railway Station has been named in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest railway platform in the world. It is a junction of South Western Railway zone in Indian Railways. PM Modi has dedicated this renovated railway station to the nation on Sunday.
Hubli is a big hub of business
Hubli is an important junction of Karnataka. Hubli is a major hub of business in the North Karnataka region. Hubli railway station is located at the junction of connecting railway lines towards Bangalore (towards Davangere), Hospete (towards Gadag) and Vasco-da-Gama/Belagavi (towards Londa).
Platform length is 1507 meters
Three new platforms have been added in addition to the old 5 platforms at Hubli Railway Station. The length of one of these platform number-8 is 1507 meters. In this way it has become the longest railway platform in the world. The new platforms at Hubli Railway Station have been constructed at a cost of Rs 20.1 crore. It has been constructed as part of the reconstruction of Hubli Yard.
250 crores will be saved every year
Railways has also done electrification of Hospete-Hubli-Tinaighat railway line (245 RKM) with a cost of Rs 519 crore. This route passes through Vijayanagara, Koppal, Gadag, Dharwad, Uttara Kannada and Belagavi districts. It is a major coal route of Karnataka. This route connects Steel Plant and Thermal Power Plant to Mormugao Port. There will be zero pollution due to electrification of double-line track. This will reduce the dependence on diesel. In this way, about Rs 250 crore will be saved every year.
Earlier Gorakhpur was the longest railway platform
Earlier Gorakhpur railway station was the longest railway platform in the world. It has now moved to second place. Its length is 1,366.33 meters. Whereas, Kollam Junction in Kerala has the third longest platform with a length of 1180.5 metres.
