Jharkhand’s young filmmaker Niranjan Kujur’s short film ‘Teere Bendho Na’ has been selected to be screened in the ‘Short and Independent’ section of the 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival. The nine-day festival will be held in Dhaka from January 20 to 28, 2024. The festival is organized by the Rainbow Film Society, one of the most active film organizations in the film society movement of Bangladesh. They always organize a film festival full of seminars, masterclasses and workshops.

(UNANCHORED) has been selected to be screened in the ‘Short and Independent’ section of the 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival, Bangladesh, 2024. The director and screenwriter of the short film ‘Teere Bendho Na’ is Niranjan Kujur. Whereas, its story writer and cinematographer is Joydeep Bhowmik. The editor of the film is Jyoti Ranjan Nath.
What is the story of Teere Bendho Na?
The story of the short film is something like this – A health camp is organized in the school of Haripad’s daughter Urmi, where she is found suffering from a complex heart related disease. Haripad’s relations with his wife were already not going well. During Urmi’s treatment, he struggles to handle his wife’s hopelessness towards him. Niranjan said about the short film, Haripad’s character is like that one person present in almost every family, who does not understand the ways of the society, who has less practical knowledge. Because of which they are not able to get love and respect. Because of their habits people keep distance from them or try to cheat them. ‘Teere Bendho Na’ is based on a real incident that came to our attention through a local Bengali newspaper a few years ago. The film has been decorated in a realistic manner so that the drama of the story remains within scope.
Sharmila Tagore will attend the 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival
Veteran Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore will visit Dhaka to participate in the 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival. This festival is scheduled to start on January 20, 2024 and will continue till January 28. Sharmila will serve as one of the jury members for the Asian competition section. Other jurors on that panel will be Russian producer Anna Shalashina, Chinese film personality and producer Shi Chuan, Bangladeshi producer Samia Zaman and Thai director and producer Tom Waller, the festival authority said. They will select Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay and Best DOP.

It is noteworthy that Jharkhand’s young filmmaker Niranjan Kujur’s film ‘Edpa Kana’ made in Kudukh language has been awarded the National Award for Best Audiography in the non-feature film category. Niranjan Kujur, resident of Lohardaga district of Jharkhand, is a director and screenwriter. Till now Niranjan has made films in Kudukh, Hindi, Bengali and Santali languages. Recently Niranjan has made a short film ‘Teere Bendho Na’ in Bengali, which has been shown in IDSFFK and SiGNS Film Festival of Kerala.
