When Fadnavis, who also holds the charge of the state Home Department, was asked by reporters whether an SIT has been constituted in the Salian case, he said, “Last year in the winter session of the state legislature, there was a proposal (for constituting SIT) in the Assembly.” Demand had arisen. The government had said that the evidence would be examined and instructions would be given to the police department. Therefore, instructions have been given to him.” A police officer in Mumbai said, ”Senior inspector of Malwani police station Chimaji Adhav will investigate the case and Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Bansal will monitor the investigation.” Salian (28) was arrested on June 8. In 2020, he allegedly committed suicide by jumping from a building.

A few days later, the body of Sushant (34) was found hanging in his flat in Mumbai suburb Bandra. Disha Salian’s father Satish Salian had written a letter to the police saying that he does not suspect any foul play in the case of his daughter’s death. He had also expressed complete satisfaction over the investigation of Mumbai Police. Reacting to the formation of the SIT, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said the party will not succumb to such pressure tactics. Criticizing the BJP, Raut said they could hand over the investigation to American or Russian spy agencies – CIA and KGB respectively. “We will not succumb to these pressure tactics,” he said. Raut alleged, “The time of the present regime has been spent only on constituting SIT against opposition leaders.” Political allegations and counter-allegations were seen after Salian’s death. Some leaders had alleged that Salian was murdered and tried to drag the name of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s son and MLA Aditya Thackeray into the case. BJP MLA Praveen Darekar had said last week that many leaders have been demanding for a long time that an SIT be constituted in the case. Asked whether an SIT probe into Salian’s death had been ordered, Uddhav told reporters that he had no official information about any such order.

Without naming anyone, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader said, “…if they make false allegations against us, then we will bring out the truth.” Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve told reporters.
