Mahant Mahesh Das Giri’s dead body has been kept in the temple to pay his last respects. Today his tomb will be kept in the temple premises itself. Mahant Mahesh Das Giri, originally a resident of Awala in district Bareilly, had come to the city’s Nakka Kuan Mukteshwar temple as a priest about 40 years ago. Since then he was reciting prayers in the temple. The Mahant had given a grand appearance to the daily aarti. Apart from this, he used to behave very well with the people visiting the temple. Pandit Vinod Shastri, a resident of the city, said that Mahant Mahesh Das Giri was suffering from lung disease for the last several days, whose treatment was going on in the temple itself.
He passed away due to prolonged illness. He told that his dead body has been kept in the temple premises for the people of the city and surrounding areas to pay their last respects. After darshan, Baba Mahesh Das Giri’s samadhi will be installed at the place of the designated temple on Sunday. Garhmukteshwar MLA Harendra Tewatia, Rajesh, Pandit Ravi, Akunr Tyagi etc paid their last respects.
