Mamta Banerjee banned The Kerala Story, Anurag Kashyap fumed with anger, said this big thing

On 8 May, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee banned the screening of The Kerala Story in the state. The state government called for a ban on the film citing threat to law and order in West Bengal. Directed by Sudipto Sen, the Adah Sharma starrer film has been embroiled in controversies ever since its trailer was released. There is also strong opposition to it in many states. Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap shared a cryptic note on Twitter talking about the ban.

Amidst all the controversies surrounding The Kerala Story, the film finally released on 5 May. On 8 May, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee banned the screening of The Kerala Story in the state. The Chief Minister of Bengal directed the Chief Secretary of the state to ensure that the film is removed from the running screens in the state. He said the decision has been taken to ‘maintain peace in Bengal’ and avoid any incidents of hate crime and violence.

Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap shared a quote by French author Voltaire on Twitter. It read, “I don’t agree with what you say, but I will defend until death your right to say it.” Along with this, he wrote, “Whether you agree with the film or not, be it propaganda, counter propaganda, objectionable or not, it is wrong to ban it.”

The Kerala Story About this

The Kerala Story Revolves around an innocent Hindu woman from Kerala who is brainwashed and converted by her Islamic friends. He was later transferred to the ISIS terrorist organization. The film is directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amritlal Shah. The film claims to be based on real-life incidents where around 32,000 women from Kerala are trapped under this dangerous scheme.

The film has been under the scanner ever since the trailer was released. Following this, there has been an increase in outrage and protests demanding a ban on the film. However, the trailer description of the film has recently changed from ‘a story of 32,000 women’ to a story of three women. This started another round of debate.
