March 4: The first Asian Games were organized in India today

In history, the day of March 4 is associated with the organization of the first Asian Games in India. In 1951, the first Asian Games were held in New Delhi from March 4 to 11. A total of 489 players from 11 Asian countries participated in these games. The Games were to be held in 1950, but the year of the event was changed to 1951 due to lack of sufficient time for preparations. A total of 57 events in eight sports were included in the first Asian Games. Athletes from Japan captured most of the gold medals and took a total of 60 medals with 24 gold medals. Host nation India finished second in the medal tally with 15 gold medals for a total of 51 medals.

1788: Publication of Calcutta Gazette started. Today it is known as ‘Gazette of Government of West Bengal’.

1980: Zimbabwe’s nationalist leader Robert Mugabe became the first black Prime Minister of Zimbabwe after winning a landslide victory in the election.
